Northwestern Memorial Hospital Joins the National Prostate Cancer Coalition in the Drive Against Prostate Cancer CHICAGO - One in every six men will get prostate cancer during his lifetime; the good news is that, if the cancer is caught early, nearly 100% of those men will survive. With this in mind, Northwestern Memorial Hospital is joining with the National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC) to help increase awareness of prostate cancer and promote annual screening among Chicagoland area men. Volunteer physicians from Northwestern Memorial will join NPCC staff members and area phlebotomists aboard two mobile screening units for two days during the Drive Against Prostate Cancer event. As part of the event, Northwestern Memorial will offer free prostate screening to men ages 40 and over on the following dates:
In addition to receiving the free screening, every man tested in Chicago will have the opportunity to help fight prostate cancer by donating a blood sample to help further research, sponsored in part by the Urological Research Foundation, for a new prostate cancer detection test. Supplies and support for this research is made possible by the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
