STAR Program Helps Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer Look Ahead, ABC7 TV News
Beyond the Cure, a Healthbeat segment on ABC 7 TV News, draws attention to some of the health issues pediatric cancer survivors face at adults. Dr. Aarati Didwania, Director of the Lurie Cancer Center's STAR (Survivors Taking Action & Responsibility) Program, comments on the need for specialized programs like STAR to help survivors watch out for "late effects" related to childhood cancer.

"We gave you some toxic things, which were good, and they cured your cancer, but they affected normal cells as well," Dr. Didwania tells a patient. "So what we need to do is make sure you stay healthy for as long as possible."
