Frequently Asked Questions: (click on a question to view answer):

  • How far is the walk?
The walk is about three miles but you can walk any distance you like. In fact, you don't have to walk at all. You can simply come out to participate in the entertainment and celebration. (Registration is required)

  • Do I have to walk the entire distance?
NO, the walk goes out 1 1/2 miles and turns around. You can return to the celebration site at any time.

  • Are dogs permitted?
Yes, if your dog is kept on a leash at all times.

  • Should I register my children?
Please register all children except babies and toddlers under two years old. Children receive t-shirts and refreshments.

  • Is the Cancer Survivors' Celebration & Walk a fundraising event?
No. This is a celebration and community awareness event. However, if you would like to make a contribution, you can do so when you register. This is strictly voluntary. If you would like to learn more about donating to the Lurie Cancer Center, click here.

  • Where should I park? What is the cost?
We recommend the Grant Park South Garage (entrances on South Michigan Ave at Jackson Blvd. and Van Buren St.; no discount available) and Northwestern Memorial Hospital Huron/St. Clair Garage, 222 E. Huron St. (discount available). Free trolleys run between each garage and the walk site from 6:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

  • What time is the event over?
The celebration is over at about 11 a.m., following the cancer survivors' group photo.

  • Can I take part if I didn't receive my cancer treatment at Northwestern?
Yes! This is a community event for everyone who has been touched by cancer.

  • What if it rains?
The event is rain or shine...let's hope for shine!

  • I board the trolley to Grant Park?
Free trolley service to the walk site begins at 6 a.m. from the Northwestern Memorial Huron/St Clair Parking Garage (trolley stop on the north side of Huron, between St. Clair and Fairbanks) and the Grant Park South Parking Garage on Michigan Ave. and Jackson Blvd. Trolleys return walkers to the garages until about 11:30 a.m.

  • What are the t-shirt sizes?
Options for t-shirt sizes are youth Large (similar to an adult Small), adult XL and adult XXL. Cancer survivors wear purple, everyone else wears white. The t-shirts have a new design each year, created for the Cancer Survivors' Celebration & Walk.

  • Why do only cancer survivors wear purple t-shirts?
The purple t-shirts make it easy to recognize and honor the cancer survivors.

  • Can you send me my t-shirt?
No, but there are many locations where t-shirts can be picked up in advance. Click on the tab labeled Registration & T-shirt Pick-up for details.

  • How can I make a donation to the Lurie Cancer Center?
