Dr. Khan is c-Leader of the Women's Cancer Program and a surgical oncologist. She has specific interest in biomarkers of breast cancer risk that can be identified in minimal samples of breast epithelium or nipple fluid. Her research projects include investigation of RNA and microRNA risk biomarkers in beingn biopsy material, steroid hormones in random fine needle aspirates of the breast, and in nipple fluid. She also has expertise in the conduct of early phase prevention trials, and has recently completed a study of soy isoflavone supplementation in healthy high risk women. Her laboratory interests include the development of prevention agents that can be delivered through the transdermal approach. She is the chair of a Phase III ECOG trial of local therapy for the intact primary tumor in women with Stage IV breast cancer.
