Cancer Focused Research:

Dr. Budunova's majors research focus is alteration of cell signaling during tumorigenesis as the basis for the development of new approaches to prevention and treatment of cancer. Her current projects are centered on the role of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in skin and prostate tumor formation. She is also interested in the role of GR signaling in the maintenance of skin stem cells and in the role of stem cells in skin cancer resistance. Lately, her laboratory has been involved in the development of novel anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory therapeutic approaches using selective GR activators that have improved therapeutic profile, and do not induce typical for glucocorticoids side effects.
