Dr. Qin’s research interests center on ischemic angiogenesis, tumor stem cells and metastasis, and cardiovascular tissue repair. Recent work in his group has led to the identification of adult cardiac stem cells in animals, discovery of several new signaling pathways in the bone-marrow stem cell niche, and characterization of the transcriptional network of the E2F family cell-cycle regulators in the vascular endothelial cells. Ongoing interdisciplinary approaches employ genetics, structural biology, high-throughput sequencing, and two photon imaging system to understand the mechanisms and develop novel therapeutics for ischemic heart disease and cancer.
