Cancer Focused Research:
We are active in two cancer-relevant areas 1) drug delivery: active loading of liposomes with doxorubicin by concurrent precipitation of an amorphous calcium carbonate nanoparticles inside the liposome. This project started with one undergraduate student in the summer 2011 and is a collaboration between my lab and the Woloschak group. 2) VEGF/FGF signaling: We are investigating the influence of VEGF and FGF on chemotaxis and morphogenesis in primary mesenchyme cells of the sea urchin embryo. We developed a unique cell culture systems that we anticipate will provide unprecedented insight into the transcriptional and post-translational regulation downstream from the VEGF and FGF receptors.
