Cancer Focused Research:
My clinical and research pursuits have focused on improving health-related quality of life (HRQL) in people with cancer, neurological disorders and other chronic medical conditions (e.g., Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Burn/Orthopedic Injury, COPD, Sarcoidosis, HIV, Coronary Heart Disease). Specific interests include stress reduction and CAM-based interventions in oncology, self management support interventions using health information technology, and developing patient reported outcomes measures in HRQL, disease symptoms, coping/adjustment and resilience. I was the Principal Investigator on a 1-year hospital funded Pilot Grant to examine HRQL and self management support preferences in a prostate cancer sample and am currently the Principal Investigator of a hospital-funded RCT examining the effects of a mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention for men diagnosed with prostate cancer who are on active surveillance. I am the site Principal Investigator on an NIH-funded grants (NCI: Home Based Reflexology for Women with Advanced Breast Cancer).
