DuPage Medical Group

The largest multi-specialty practice in DuPage County, DuPage Medical Group's (DMG) Hematology/Oncology Department and Infusion Center is comprised of more than 270 primary care and specialty physicians caring for more than 300,000 patients in Chicago's western suburbs. Located at 1020 E. Ogden Avenue in Naperville, the full-service oncology facility includes:
  • 10-chair Infusion Center staffed with chemotherapy and biotherapy certified nurses
  • On-site laboratory
  • State-of-the-art radiology services
  • Full range of diagnostic testing services, including PET imaging
  • Free standing outpatient surgical center
DMG first became a Clinical Research affiliate member in 2008. "Being part of the network allows us to offer our patients access to the latest investigational medications in their own back yard. Getting the best care so close to home is important to our patients. Previously, our patients had to be sent to other institutions to participate in research," says Director of Clinical Research, Peri Todd.

Nasir Shahab, MD, FACP, is the primary Principal Investigator for DMG's oncology trials. Dr. Shahab is board certified in Hematology and Oncology, with clinical interests including; brain, breast, colon, head and neck, lung, and prostate cancers. Dr. Shahab has been practicing at DMG for four years, and also has special interests in testicular cancer, leukemia and lymphoma. Research Investigator Janet Chin, MD, is board certified in Hematology and Oncology as well as Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, with special interests in breast, colon and lung cancers.

The primary focus of DMG's dedicated Clinical Research Department is providing physician researchers with the infrastructure needed to successfully facilitate the administrative and clinical aspects of conducting research. They provide all aspects of research coordination, including centralized budget and contract negotiation, experienced regulatory affairs support, marketing and subject recruitment to boost trial awareness and participation, as well as data quality collection and other research activities. This support helps differentiate DMG as a unique community-based practice.

Trish Meschino, BSN, RN, CCRC is the lead Oncology Research Coordinator and Debbie Shapert, RN, MSN, OCN is the Practice Manager. They work together to provide the research and clinical oversight needed in oncology trials. The Research Department also includes two additional research nurse coordinators, two research nurse practitioners, one clinical research associate and a dedicated research physician.

DMG's physician researchers and staff are committed to the successful planning and execution of Phase 2 – 4 clinical trials and outcome studies, says Todd. "Our goal as a research site is to contribute to the development of novel drugs, biologics, devices and therapeutic interventions and to the expansion of indications."
