Prostate Cancer SPORE
Prostate Cancer SPORE In 2001, the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University was one of eleven cancer centers to receive a $12.5 million five year award from the National Cancer Institute for a SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) in Prostate Cancer. This grant was refunded in 2009 as a consortium of investigators from Northwestern University, the University of Chicago and NorthShore University Health System. The $11.5 million prestigious SPORE award enables a committed team of basic scientists, urologists, oncologists, pathologists and statisticians to work together to develop novel approaches for the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of human prostate cancer. In addition to four research projects, the SPORE grant funds the collection of well annotated biospecimens, biostatistical and bioinformatics support, a clinical core and developmental research and career development programs.
