The Biostatistics Core Facility provides biostatistical and data management support including such services as: data analysis, clinical trial design, database design and management, design and analysis of clustered data, diagnostic screening tests, protocol preparation, and sample size determination.
- Intel Pentium 4 dual core or better PC running either Win XP Pro, Vista, or Win 7
- Access to department’s storage server and networked printers (high volume and color)
- Connected to the University's backbone network (NUNet)
- Computing cluster with 64-bit AMD Opteron processors, 64-bit GNU/Linux operating system
- Two modern computational SuSE Linux servers and a 5-node Rocks cluster
- R with Bioconductor, STATA SE, and Mathematica with 64-bit optimizations
- SAS/Windows, SPSS/Windows, Pass, Axum, Prism Graph Pad, Power and Precision, Meta-Analysis, Stata, R, and S-Plus
- Data transfer across platforms and formats is aided by the DBMS/Copy
- Secure data transfer done using Depot, a university supported web-based data transfer tool
- Prepare grant applications - review objectives, determine sample size, specify analysis plan
- Conduct statistical analyses using the appropriate computation and graphical software
- Provide expertise on the collection, organization and analysis of large amounts of genetic, proteomic and other biological data
- Provide / coordinate database management with the Bioinformatics Core Facility if necessary
- Provide statistical support to Cancer Center members for developmental projects; modest amounts of statistical support to ongoing unfunded projects; statistical support for funded grants
- Participate in the Cancer Center's educational programs as needed
