Despite advances in early detection and treatment, cancer and treatment-related symptoms present unique and enduring challenges that may impact quality of life. Managing a cancer survivor's unique medical and psychosocial needs is best accomplished within a holistic, evidence-based and long-term approach to care.
The Cancer Survivorship Institute and the Lurie Cancer Center endorse the National Coalition of Cancer Survivorship definition of someone as a cancer survivor "from the time of diagnosis and for the balance of life". Family members, friends and caregivers of those affected by cancer are also part of the survivorship experience. No matter how it is defined, survivorship is unique for each person.Survivorship Services
