During my recently completed research fellowship in the Department of Urology at the University of Michigan, I worked to obtain a masters’ degree in health and healthcare research. This provided me with the requisite training and skills to perform independent health services research and will allow me to serve as a research mentor to trainees. Further, I have extensively published on topics related to quality improvement of cancer care. Beyond publication, I have worked to implement strategies to improve the quality and consistency of care across the entire state of Michigan; experience that has afforded me valuable perspective on real-world implementation of research findings and also the complexities of working in teams to achieve meaningful improvement.[Shorten text]

Academic Focus

The primary focus of my early research has been to characterize and better understand variations in the quality of cancer care, specifically as it pertains to active surveillance for prostate cancer. I spent considerable time investigating the efficacy and safety of this management strategy within the state of Michigan. Subsequently, I have worked to understand variation in both the selection of men for active surveillance and the follow-up men receive while on active surveillance.

Clinical Focus

I specialize in the treatment and management of all urologic cancers, hematuria and elevated PSA.
