Thank you for celebrating with us! 23rd Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Walk & 5K
On June 5, 2016, more than 4,000 cancer survivors and supporters joined together on National Cancer Survivors Day for the 23rd Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Walk & 5K!
Blue skies and warm breezes set the stage for the sea of purple (worn by cancer survivors) and white t-shirts seen walking and running along the lakefront path, and enjoying the celebration in Chicago’s Grant Park.
Oncologist Dr. Mark Agulnik welcomed runners and launched the race, along with his patient and fellow runner, Hector Nunez. View the 5K race results »
The Lurie Cancer Center’s signature event “is inspiring and powerful,” said Lurie Cancer Center Director, Dr. Leon Platanias before leading the countdown to launch the Walk. “It means a lot to our doctors, researchers and healthcare providers to share this celebration with our patients, families and friends. We are all determined to improve the lives of cancer patients and survivors now, and in the years to come.”
The shared commitment of 177 teams and over 4,000 participants raised more than $325,000 to help the Lurie Cancer Center turn innovative research into powerful, promising new treatments -- and donations are still coming in. Please consider making a gift to help us reach our goal!
