Associate Director, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

The Associate Director for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is appointed by and reports to the director of the Lurie Cancer Center. In this role, Feng Yue, PhD, guides, strengthens, and expands the Lurie Cancer Center's strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics. He oversees the development of cutting‑edge data platforms, promotes the integration of AI-driven approaches across basic, translational, and clinical research, and supports the advancement of computational tools that enable discovery and innovation.
Dr. Yue works closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and research teams to build sustainable infrastructures, establishes best practices in data governance, and fosters interdisciplinary collaborations that enhance the impact of AI and data science throughout the Lurie Cancer Center.
Dr. Yue is the Duane and Susan Burnham Professor of Molecular Medicine and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. He continues to serve as the Co‑Leader of Lurie Cancer Center's Cancer Epigenetics and Nuclear Dynamics (CEND) Program and is the founding Director of the Center for Cancer Genomics at the Lurie Cancer Center. He also serves as the Director of the Center for Advanced Molecular Analysis within the Northwestern Institute for Augmented Intelligence in Medicine.
The long‑term goal of Dr. Yue’s research group is to leverage high‑throughput genomics, computational modeling, and functional assays to understand how genetic variants contribute to the development and progression of human cancers. His work focuses on identifying mutations that disrupt non‑coding regulatory elements, such as enhancers, and alter the 3D architecture of the human genome. Ultimately, his research seeks to define cancer‑specific and subtype‑specific regulatory mechanisms and pathways that may serve as biomarkers or therapeutic targets.
