Cancer-Focused Research
Dr. MacQuarrie's research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms present in pediatric tumors that drive their development and aberrant biology. His current work is focused on investigating the role that nuclear organization plays in pediatric tumor biology, using the soft tissue sarcoma rhabdomyosarcoma and normal skeletal muscle cells as a model system to test the hypothesis that pediatric tumors exhibit tumor-type specific derangements in nuclear organization that contribute to their inappropriate cellular behavior. His clinical interests also lie in pediatric solid tumors, particularly in the treatment of sarcomas.
