Cancer-Focused Research

I am a physician-scientist and board-eligible pediatric neurosurgeon with surgical training and expertise in pediatric brain tumors. I have a broad background in analytical neurochemistry and molecular neurobiology from my graduate school training, with specific expertise in high-throughput chemotherapeutic screening and complex small animal survival surgery. More recently during my neurosurgical residency and pediatric neurosurgery fellowship, my research interests have moved toward understanding the molecular biology and treatment strategies of medulloblastoma, ependymoma, and glioblastoma. This includes the discovery of chemotherapeutic treatment leads for clinical translation, utilizing pre-clinical patient-derived xenograft mouse models. As a direct result my training and expertise in both basic science and neurosurgery, I have the ability to form a vital link between bedside and bench for translational research projects. I currently serve as the Director of Translational Research and Clinical Trials in the Department of Neurosurgery at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
