Cancer-Focused Research

I am a gynecologic oncologist and a health services researcher. My research focuses on surgical outcomes in gynecologic oncology patients, practice patterns in the delivery of gynecologic oncology care, and patient reported outcomes. I received a Masters degree in clinical research, completed a post-doctoral fellowship in epidemiology and clinical trials, and most recently, have been awarded an early career development award in the Women’s Reproductive Health Research (K-12) program. I participated in a prospective project assessing health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among postoperative gynecologic oncology patients. We identified instruments that are sensitive measures of HRQOL for the surgical gynecologic oncology patient and found that surgical complications lead to prolonged detriments in HRQOL. I have also designed risk assessment tools that identify patients at high risk of postoperative complication to better triage them to treatments associated with lower operative morbidity. Finally, I am interested in how the quality of gynecologic cancer care is measured, making sure that incentives for short-term and long-term outcomes align.
